Energy Policy & Vision 2031

State Renewable Energy Target: The Tamil Nadu Energy Department announced Vision 2031, targeting a 50% renewable energy share in the State’s energy mix by 2031.
EV Charging Infrastructure Expansion: Targets the installation of 20,000 EV charging stations across major inter-city corridors under Vision 2031. Features a 50% capital subsidy (capped at ₹50,000) for charging infrastructure installed in apartment complexes.
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS): Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL) initiated 1,000 MWh of stand-alone BESS under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme across 6 TANTRANSCO substations (Thennampatty, Anuppankulam, Ottapidaram, Vellalaviduthi, Kayathar, and Karaikudi).
Agri Connections & Smart Metering: TNPDCL will issue 50,000 new agricultural power connections in FY 2026–27 and install 1.25 lakh smart meters across 7 districts (including Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram) under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam Procurement: The Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC) placed work orders with Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers (70:30 ratio) to supply 1,28,499 gold rings (1-gram each) for infants born in government hospitals, ahead of the scheme’s launch on September 15.

CM’s Good Governance Award for CMRL: The Operations and Maintenance team of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) received the Chief Minister’s Good Governance Award for superior station maintenance and introducing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for contractor management (modeled on the Dubai Metro system). CMRL’s daily commuter footprint reached 3.4 lakh passengers.

14th BRICS STI Ministerial Meeting: Hosted in Chennai, Union Minister Jitendra Singh inaugurated the 14th BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Ministerial Meeting centered on the theme “Inclusivity, Innovation, and Sustainability”.
‘Sowcar’ Janaki: Eminent actor ‘Sowcar’ Janaki passed away at age 94. She performed in over 450 films across 5 languages (Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi), debuting in Shavukaru (1950). Celebrated for classic performances in Puthiya Paravai, Bama Vijayam, Ethir Neechal, and Thillu Mullu, she was decorated with the Padma Shri and Kalaimamani awards.

Judicial Service Entry Qualification Revised: A 2:1 Supreme Court Bench headed by CJI Surya Kant upheld legal practice as a prerequisite for judicial service but trimmed the required active legal practice from 3 years to 1 year for Civil Judge (Junior Division) posts, coupled with 1 year of mandatory training at State Judicial Academies (fully effective April 1, 2027).
