Paranur Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) Toll System:

The Paranur toll plaza on the Chennai–Tiruchi National Highway (NH 45) became Tamil Nadu’s first booth-less toll plaza. Equipped with gantries containing RFID readers, radar scanners, and FASTag-automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems, it allows vehicles to pass seamlessly without stopping.

The Supreme Court ruled out a total nationwide ban on firecrackers ahead of Deepavali, approving a “limited and conditional relaxation” based on recommendations by CSIR-NEERI (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Environmental Engineering Research Institute).
CSIR-NEERI’s new-generation joined green crackers are free of banned barium chemicals, adhere to noise limits of 125 dB(AI)/145 dB(C) peak, achieve a 30% reduction in particulate emissions, and reduce solid waste generation by 4% to 32%. The Supreme Court is also considering specific time windows for bursting crackers.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the 2026 Southwest monsoon concluded with 759.4 mm of rainfall, recording a 12.6% deficit (87% of the Long Period Average / LPA). This represents the lowest monsoon rainfall recorded in India since 2015.

Phase III Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) Norms:
- The Centre notified Phase III CAFE norms for passenger vehicles for the period April 1, 2027 to March 31, 2032.
- Target fuel consumption will be tightened by 16.7%, from 3.996 L/100 km (2027–28) down to 3.3273 L/100 km (2031–32).
- Under the fleet-efficiency formula, each Battery Electric Vehicle (EV) will count as 3 vehicles. The reference vehicle weight benchmark is set at 1,229 kg.
Rabi Crops Minimum Support Price (MSP) Hike (2027-28): The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved an MSP hike across all mandated Rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing season. The highest increase was granted to safflower (an increase of ₹675/quintal, raising the MSP to ₹7,215/quintal), ensuring a profit margin of 50% to 106% over weighted average production costs.
Digital Banking & Contactless Payments: Apple Pay launched contactless payment services in India in partnership with Axis Bank for Visa and Mastercard cardholders.
