• Special Commission for Panchami Lands:
  • Policy Decision: The Tamil Nadu government will soon constitute a Special Commission to identify and protect Panchami lands across the State.
  • Historical Context: In 1891, the then Chengalpattu Collector identified wasteland issues and wrote to the Queen of England, leading to government orders allocating 12 lakh acres exclusively for tribal and marginalized communities.
  • Present Status: RTI data reveals that out of 12 lakh acres, only 1.86 lakh acres currently remain in records, as earlier committees formed in 1996, during M. Karunanidhi’s tenure, and in 2015 lost momentum.

• U.K. Recognition of India’s Carbon Credit Scheme (CCTS):
  • The United Kingdom officially recognised India’s Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) as a qualifying criterion for carbon price relief under its Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulations 2026, significantly reducing tariffs on domestic exporters.
